After we wrap up our classes, we send out a survey and ask our students to share their thoughtS. Before you decide whether to join us at the School of Trout, you might want to read what other folks have to say about their experiences in Idaho.

The School of Trout is a life changing experience. It’s an unparalleled opportunity to learn from the “best of the best”, to sharpen your skills as a fly fisher, fly tier, conservationist, and to motivate yourself to find every opportunity possible to get out on the water with a fly rod. The lessons learned and the overall experience of the School of Trout will be with me for many years to come.

Wow! The instructors were simply phenomenal. I had never cast a fly rod before, and now I can hit a target at 25-35 feet 8 out of 10 casts. Everyone made me feel at ease, and the learning environment was positive and encouraging. The instructor to student ratio was one-to-one at times! I met some of the most skilled and famous fly fishers around and heard their tips and tricks. The location is beautiful, and the food is excellent. I even caught a trout on a dry fly!
Great instructors and great content. The students and instructors were engaged and enjoyable. The location can’t be beat. Highly recommended.
I enjoyed SoT immensely. Like everyone I am sure who comes, I didn’t know exactly what to expect. But, the week far, far exceeded my expectations — in every way. You’ve assembled a very special group of people whose passion for helping others understand and learn the sport is very, very clear.
I strongly believe that your equipment is only as good as your skill - getting the best instruction available is crucial to developing good technique - SOT did just that.
Thank you again for a great week at the SOT. The instruction was ,as usual, superb. The collection of talent, the different personalities and approaches really make this the premier school for fly fishing. All of the instructors showed me something new but also helped refine some of my current skills. I’m looking forward to getting back next year.
I enjoyed every minute of it.
This week has been absolutely amazing! The biggest part of what I appreciated was the respect and passion for the sport that exuded out of every instructor. The respect for the fish. The casting was beyond my expectations. That portion of the class is priceless. It was clear that the structure of the week was really well thought out. Each session seemed to give you great info yet yearning for more. And of course the location and the lodge/food was incredible as well.
The school was exceptional.
The opportunity to join the class was truly a privilege and one I think everyone enjoyed! I had a great time. Excellent class!
Awesome course with great people. Thanks again.
As I told John Juracek, there are a few times in your life that you will cross paths with people who will have a positive effect on you for the rest of your life - this was one of those times.
The fly casting instruction was superb.
The Instructors, other students, lodge facilities and staff were all excellent. Top notch. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly, and went out of their way to make sure we all had a great experience.
Thank you. It was outstanding.
Had a fantastic time at the School of Trout.
I’d been getting by on guesswork and luck for a few years when I took the Basic Trout class. During that week with the SOT instructors, a fog seemed to slowly lift and the river opened up to me. I could clearly see fish, insects, and holding water that just weren’t there before. Combining this new knowledge with vastly improved casting skills has given me the confidence to start taking on more challenging puzzles on the water.
One of the best experiences in my life.
I thought that the class and the experience was absolutely outstanding. I learned so much that will help me be a better fly fisher and steward of our trout streams, and I’m inspired to fish as much as possible and share my learnings with others. Everything was superb.
Great job!
The instructors, some of the “who’s who” in the fly fishing industry, were humble in sharing their vast knowledge and respected where I was on my learning curve.
SOT was incredibly well done.
Thanks again for such a great week! What a fun and knowledgeable group, and will be so helpful in my personal growth in fishing and conservation!
School of Trout isn’t something that will only benefit beginners. I consider myself a very experienced trout angler at this point, yet I came away a significantly better fisherman than I went in to the course. The opportunity to ask questions face-to-face with people like Tom Rosenbauer, Kirk Deeter and John Juracek is incredible. No one is so good that they couldn’t benefit from this class.
I wanted to express my deepest gratitude to you …
I would recommend this course without reservation. I would consider ‘repeating’ this course, even though at the end, we all received graduation diplomas!
Both lodging and food were excellent.
My experience attending the School of Trout 2018 in Idaho exceeded my expectations and offered excellent opportunities to learn from various instructors …
It was a gift, of which I will never be able to repay - I mean that honestly. It is now my intent to pay that gift forward whenever I can.
Each instructor brought a unique perspective …
I am still on a high from the class and can’t wait to get back out on the water!
The investment for SOT is significant, but you will get even more in return.
I want to thank you again for a wonderful week.
The casting instruction alone was worth the investment in SOT.
I was able to completely immerse myself into the school for a week and come out more knowledgeable and confident in my fishing abilities.
The array of nationally-acclaimed instructors can not be beat.
It was an experience I will carry with me always …
The instructors were fantastic and participants were so fun to be with all week. It is truly a dream to spend a week with people who love fly fishing as we all do.
Todd and the rest of the crew really outdid themselves and it is an experience I would happily repeat!
I can’t say enough about the week …
The setting couldn’t be any more perfect; right on the Henry’s Fork, in a comfortable lodge with a great restaurant, bar and fly shop.
I do not have any suggestions or criticisms; the course truly exceeded all my expectations. All the instructors were amazing both as teachers and people. I would recommend this course to anyone asking my opinion.
